Neil Davis and his wife Elaine decided to make a tree change in 1991 and eventually found themselves in the scenic high country of Glenn Innes. “I have always been passionate about rural enterprises so it was a dream come true to swap city living for cattle trading and pasture management” Neil explained of his change in direction.
With a Special Events business servicing the Corporate sector and 4 Equipment Hire outlets in Brisbane, changing to primary production meant much of his business management experience could be easily transferred.
In completing the Diploma of Agriculture in 2010 Neil felt that the course verified his knowledge and cemented his understanding of managing a business in a rural setting.
Having already completed a horticultural course by correspondence, Neil found this an ideal way to learn. The course offered by RuralBiz, delivered on-line, fitted in well with his on-farm and family commitments and allowed him to get his qualification without negatively impacting on his other obligations.
“I am thrilled that my children have also chosen to enter rural industries” Neil stated. His son, pictured here runs a helicopter mustering business in the Chanel Country.
Neil is now undertaking his Advanced Diploma of Rural Business Management and intends to continue to improve his farm management skills and offer to mentor his adult children in their rural enterprises.
